Why Children Love Christmas

Santa Claus, reindeer in flight, new fallen snow in full moonlight;

Roasting chestnuts on an open fire, custard, fruit and pumpkin pie,

Sleigh‑bells ring and carolers sing, Christmas trees and toys and things,

Tiny Tim and Rudolph's nose and Frostie Snowman's baggy close

Are why children love Christmas.

It's the magic in the air, and the presents wrapped up everywhere

Stocking gifts and holly halls, cold red noses and reindeer paws;

Charcoal glow from burning wood, people acting as they should;

The love that's present in the air, mom and dad standing there,

Are why children love Christmas.

You won't deny that this is true; but there is much more to it too.

You've been there on Christmas morn. They open the presents every one.

And although they have lots of fun, all too soon the joy is gone.

Ah, but something else is very clear, an unseen love is also near.

And that's why children love Christmas.

I don't know just how they know. Perhaps an angel told them so.

But the true magic of Christmas morn flows from the Christmas baby born

Somewhere in a cattle stall, with enough love for us all.

Who stays with them, keeps them warm, shields their lives from all harm

And that's why children love Christmas.
