Wrapped In Chains

They wrapped me in chains;

They made nigger my name.

They brought me over the water;

Took my wife, my son, and daughter.

They wrapped me in chains;

They made nigger my name.

Took my past, language and name;

And said I'd never be free again.

Made me work hard in the field,

Tried hard to break my will.

They wrapped me in chains;

They made nigger my name.

But much to their surprise,

The prize would never left my eyes.

Though the road's been long and slow

And there's still a long way to go

I am breaking those chains

And I'm reclaiming my name.
