Wisdom

I stood and thought
Beyond the things I know:
Tomorrow, yesterday
And things that grow;
Oceans, the clouds
he wind and the rain;
And vision and thought
And joy and pain.
Light hanging on nothing
Up in the sky.
Rocks, and dirt and
things that die
Butterflies, buzzards, Alligators,
And you and me.
Everything my eyes
Are given to see.

Mountings and valleys,
Hills capped with snow,
This way and that way,
High up and down low,
Wisdom, the future,
Heaven and hell
Air, light, darkness,
And stuff that smell.

Time and distance and
Things that rot,
And knew that all I know
Is I know not.
Then with my wisdom
All at once denied,
I sat back down
Most satisfied.
